Products: Unicom

The LifeLine UniCOM is Clarion's entry-level fire alarm system providing equal access to fire alarms for the deaf and hearing impaired, in line with demands imposed by the Disability Discrimination Act.

This unit is designed to comply with
BS5839-1:2002, providing a single panel
interface for providing the deaf and hearing
impaired to activation of all fire alarms.
This robust system in a wall-mounted
enclosure is factory pre-configured for
each customer and as such there are no
user interfaces or configurations. The
system simply sends out pre-defined alarm messages upon activation of the fire alarm to a vibrating pager carried by individuals on site. The messages will continue to be transmitted every 5-8 seconds until the main fire panel is reset.

Fire Alerts - The UniCOM is pre-programmed with four standard alerting messages:

  1. FIRE EVACUATE
  2. TEST FIRE
  3. FAULT LIFELINE
  4. ENGINEERING*

*The engineering message is for maintenance of the system and is only transmitted to specific engineering pagers carried by Clarion personnel, alarm engineers, fire officers etc.

Messaging Option

In addition to the standard fire alert function, monitoring and configuration of on-site messaging can be enabled through a software application called InTouch. Running on a Microsoft Windows-based platform, InTouch is a simple program that provides the ability to text individuals and/or groups of users, variable and pre-set messages. InTouch is a secure system that incorporates various user levels of operation and is designed both for disabled and able-bodied users.

Messages can be sent from any computer on the Network running the InTouch software application to individuals, defined groups or all users in the area covered by the LifeLine transmitter.

Fire alert messages override standard pager messaging at all times.

Power Supply

LifeLine units require an un-switched mains fused spur to provide the required mains feed to power the units.

Fire Panel Interface

The UniCOM requires a set of volt-free, normally open relay contacts to interface with the fire panel. The panel will usually be a simple analogue unit, operating a 'one out all out' evacuation policy.

When the main fire alarm is activated, the open relay contacts close, alerting the LifeLine transmitter to the activation and in turn alerts the vibrating pager(s) and any dedicated ancillary equipment such as the SleepCOM. LifeLine units simply mirror the information from your main fire alarm. Messages continue to be transmitted every 5-8 seconds until the main panel is reset, the contacts are re-opened and continue to be monitored by the LifeLine unit.

Installation

UniCOM units can be fitted by Clarion engineers or alternatively by a qualified, experienced alarm engineer - UK LifeLine Partner Network.

Licencing

LifeLine systems operate on an approved radio frequency issued by Ofcom. This licensing must be maintained at all times in order to comply with the given communication regulations. The OFCOM licence lasts for 5 years after which it is the clients responsibility to renew unless a Clarion Maintenance contract is in place.
